DAILY BREAD OF LIFE

(KJV.)  JONAH 4:1-3

(1)  But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
(2)  And he prayed unto the LORD, and said,  I pray thee,  O LORD,  was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country?  Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish:  for  I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger; and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
(3)  Therefore now,  O LORD,  take,  I beseech thee, my life from me;  for it is better for me to die than to live.

MAILMEN AND WOMEN

Brethren, there are several lessons to learn from the book of Jonah, the son of Amittai;  lessons of disobedience to our Father, his chastisement, forgiveness and compassion, graciousness and long sufferings, goodness and mercies, truthfulness and righteousness.

In a nutshell, Jonah was sent by our Father, go to Nineveh to cry against it for their wickedness; but Jonah rose up and flee to Tarshish from his presence,  this is what we call disobedience to words of our Father, Jonah listened to voice of the enemy, not do what our Father asked him to do, because when the people hear his cry, they will repent, our Father will be merciful and repent of the evil; and his mission will become unfruitful;  therefore, Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of our Father;  however, who can flee from his presence?  David the Psalmist said, "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? (Psalm 139:7);  brethren, the spirit of our Father leaves within our mortal bodies, his spirits inhabits both heavens and earth; all things of the spirits are connected to his spirits:  therefore, he sees and knows everything by his spirits; we can not hide anything within or without from him; in Jonah's case, he thought he could do so, therefore, he fled from presence of our Father, found a ship going to Tarshish, paid the fare, and went down into the ship;  however, our Father knew what Jonah's thought process was, to foiled his plans; he sent trouble waves, to anguish the ship on which Jonah travelled: this is our Father's chastisement upon Jonah for walking in disobedience of his words; when the sailors found out about Jonah, what he has done, they prayed and tossed him into the trouble waters, our Father already prepared a whale which swallowed Jonah up in the tempest waters,  this is the protection of our Father, Jonah repented of his actions, prayed for forgiveness of sins, after three days, the whale vomited Jonah at the seashores;  this is the deliverance of our Father, his mercies and compassions never fails, they are forevermore: as believers, let us always endeavor to obey words of our Father, and not walk in obedience to please ourselves; regardless of our misbehaviors, our Father is still the same Father, he chastises his disobedient children, but does not cast them away completely, his goodness and mercies endures forevermore.

The word of our Father came to Jonah the second time, "Get up, go now to Nineveh, preach my words against them;  this time around, Jonah obeyed him, walked a three days journey in a day, preached his words, the people received his words with good faith, proclaimed a fast to humbled themselves, repented of their sins;  our Father saw their humbleness and regretted of the evil, he had proposed to do to them and did not; but rather forgave them of their sins:  therefore,  humility plus repentance, equals forgiveness of sins:  though Jesus Christ died and rose again to pay for all our sins, if we should sin against him, for we are all sinners; let us show remorse for our sins, seek his forgiveness, blood of Jesus Christ avails much;  if we humble ourselves under his mighty hands of forgiveness, our Father will forgive, will not chastise but receive us into his grace;  for it is written in  book of Jeremiah 18:8:  "If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil,  I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them."; therefore, repentance matters in this world of darkness.

When our Father forgave Nineveh of their sins; Jonah became very angry, prayed to our Father and said, "I knew how gracious and merciful you are, slow to anger, of great kindness and regret actions of evil;  therefore, I refused to preached your words to this great nation earlier:  now if you have forgiven them, kill me, for it is better for me to die than live.":  what Jonah thought will happen after he cried against Nineveh happened, he was bitter because what he thought should happen to the great nation of Nineveh after his warnings of destruction, did not happen; for, Nineveh repented of their sins and were forgiven:  as servants of our Father, we are just like mailmen and women, we deliver words of our Father unto hearts of his children, whether they listen, obey him or not, it is not for us to conceive ideas on how or what ought to happen after we did our duties, it is in our Father' own prerogatives to decide on what to do to his children when they receive his words;  with that in mind, our Father answered Jonah, saying, "do you have any cause to be angry?  because of his state of mind, our Father, showed Jonah a sign, that he has the right to show mercy on whoever he desires to show mercy on;  refer to chapter 4.

CONCLUSION:

Dearly beloved,  each and everyday of our lives, we are in classroom of life, learning one lesson after another; let us have awakening spirits to know if we are being tested to graduate from one level to another, and obey words of the Holy Spirit, our comforter, counsellor, reprover and teacher of all things; humble ourselves in the hands of our Father, obey his words, pray, trust and believe in him; if we are overwhelmed with troubles of this life, let us know that regardless of what maybe our problems, we are more than conquerors in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior forever and evermore.  Amen and Amen!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
