DAILY BREAD OF LIFE

(KJV.)  ST. MARK 2:18-20

(18)  And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
(19)  And Jesus said unto them,  Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?  as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
(20)  But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

IS FASTING NECESSARY?

(18)  And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?  Brethren, as believers of Jesus Christ, our attitudes and behaviors are always under scrutiny by humanity, to find faults with our standings in the faith;  therefore, let us be aware;  in this context, disciples of John the Baptist and Pharisees came to Jesus to ask him questions, why they fasted but his disciples fasted not?  However, Jesus was never against fasting; it was not a requirement for anyone to be his disciple: therefore, be never insisted that they fasted;  as believers, we may fast for different types of reasons; whether we fast or not, it does not matter to Jesus Christ;  when we choose to fast,  (i)  we can fast from food, water, or anything we desires to refrain ourselves, to get closer to our Father through resurrection power of the Holy Spirit, (Romans 8:13);  (ii)  when we fast, we deny ourselves from certain desires for a season, to focus entirely on prayers, present our petitions before our Father through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior;  (iii)  when we fast and are in spirit, fasting will destroys stronghold of our fleshly desires, subdues ungodliness, purifies our souls from filthiness of the spirit that our spiritual eyes may be enlighten to see more clearly things of the spirits and receive more anointing from resurrection power of the Holy Spirit to do his will;  (iv)  we fast to seek and know the Father's purposes for our lives and to follow after his will;  (v)  we fast to seek empowerment from the resurrection powers of the Holy Spirit to perform assigned duties and responsibilities in the body of Christ; (Acts 2);  as believers of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, we are in the lent period, the time of sober reflections;  what are we fasting from in this season of sober reflection?

(19)  And Jesus said unto them,  Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?  as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
Brethren, Jesus said to his inquirers,  "why should my disciples fast, when they have me the giver and doer of all things;  (i)  they see me perform miracles,(John 6:2);  (ii)  change water into wine, (John 4:46);  (iii)  wither away the fig tree with words of mouth, (Matthew 21:19);  raise up Lazarus from the dead, (John 12:17);  therefore, as long as I am with them, they have nothing to fast about; therefore they need no fasting yet;"  brethren, because of grace, fasting these days is optional, we can still perform miracles, based on faith in the Name of Jesus, (Matthew 17:20);  however, when the disciples could not cure the lunatick, Jesus said to his disciples, "these things can only be cast out through fasting and prayers (Matthew 17-21);"  therefore, fasting is still an important part of a believers walk of faith in the righteousness of Christ our Lord and Savior.

(20)  But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.  Brethren,  Jesus stated clearly in his answer to his inquirers, that there will days ahead when he (Jesus) will be taken away from his disciples, in those days, they will need to fast;  in the above context, (i)  Jesus, predicted his departure from the earth but they paid no attention to him, they did not think that he was prophesying about his own destiny, for lack of knowledge of who he was and his mission was on planet earth; they were blindfolded by the enemy not to know his true identity, to believe and follow him; though he was the Messiah, already walking among them, they were still waiting for the Messiah to save them from darkness of this world, (John 4:25);   (ii)   Jesus knew that his time on earth was limited, that there will be times ahead when his disciples will face the world on their own, then they will have to be in spirit, fast and pray to continue with the ministry to save souls for his glory;  therefore,  as believers in Jesus Christ, let us purify our souls with fasting to be able to take upon tasks ahead to cast out demons and set the captives free in Jesus name.  Amen!

CONCLUSION:

Dearly beloved, in today's lesson, we learn that fasting is an important parts of believers walk of faith in the righteousness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; however, fasting is optional to believers because of grace; however, the scriptures clearly stated that it is also an important step of faith to cast out demonic spirits; well, to fast or not to fast;  as believers is completely in our own judgments; for Jesus will not condemn anyone who does not fast; the fact is, he does not condemn anyone at all, he only cares about what happens to our souls;  therefore, today, he is reaching out to humanity with open arms saying; "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."  what is bewailing our souls today?  brethren, come to Jesus Christ in humbleness, he will receive us, grant us salvation, grace and peace everlasting.  Amen and amen!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

(KJV.)   Luke 17:22  And he said unto the disciples,  The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.
